Daily life of a digital nomad: Optimizing YouTube to increase viewership

Problem Analysis

I recently posted over 10 videos.

Content describing YouTube marketing techniques.

One of the most recommended videos has only 500 views and 5 views (4 of the 9 views are my own).

The optimizations we’ve implemented so far include:

  1. Selecting content focused on YouTube (with long-lasting topics)
  2. Using AI to optimize YouTube video titles and generate corresponding video covers (16:9 aspect ratio)
  3. (Using AI optimization to improve efficiency and attract clicks)Using other YouTube videos as a reference, learning and organizing the content into your own, and then experimenting with producing a series of content (YouTube series)
  4. When quality is lacking in the early stages, producing multiple videos to achieve success through quantity (obtaining sufficient data analysis and performing small, iterative optimization steps) (Data Analysis)

Try to optimize

The current conclusion is:

Long videos do have a higher RPM than short videos.

However, this only works if they consistently reach 1,000 views. If they consistently fall below 100,

Instead of increasing the number of long videos, it’s better to prioritize short videos.

Short videos are crucial for beginners and small channels.

Compared to long videos, their advantages are:

  1. Short production time: Just a quick snap of a phone or a few seconds of footage with a bit of editing is all you need to publish (compared to the hours of editing required for long videos, this saves dozens of times the time and effort).
  2. Official traffic: I’ve found that as long as a short video isn’t too bad, the official website will give it a symbolic cold start of around 500 views (compared to the 0 views of a long video, this is more likely to generate positive feedback and keep it going).
  3. Generate subscriptions and comments. For channels without 1,000 followers, you must rely on short videos to increase subscriptions. For channels that have already opened YPP, you can use short videos to increase interactions (you can ignore the advertising revenue brought by short videos here because the RPM is too low, only $0.08 on average).

Learning and imitation

The fastest way to success is to learn and imitate.

This isn’t about copying or plagiarizing, but rather absorbing content and turning it into your own knowledge and content.

But don’t just improvise your own ideas. Look to popular content; they have their reasons for success.

In other words, I’m going to watch more short videos related to YouTube marketing.

Analyze their content, learn how to create them, and review recent (and popular) short videos related to YouTube marketing within the past week.

Then, today, I must try to edit and publish a short video, even if it’s imperfect or terrible. Because only by publishing can you generate data, and only by trying can you understand the problem.
