The daily life of a digital nomad: How to increase your YouTube earnings tenfold?

How to increase your YouTube earnings tenfold?

This isn’t a sharing of successful experiences, but rather what I think about every day.

Currently, what I want is:

To increase the volume of long-form videos, meaning increasing from one video per day to three, five, or ten videos. Increasing the quantity should theoretically increase views and advertising revenue.

Secondly, the added videos should ideally be part of the same series, for example, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, etc., to create long-tail traffic, allowing interested users to watch one video after another.

Next is the video’s presentation and display quality.

If possible, use 4K 60fps; if not, at least 1080p, and ideally 60fps. Other video quality issues may affect traffic recommendations and viewing experience.

Furthermore, if you can film physical objects, don’t use screen recording. Even if you need to record the screen, use a camera to physically record the computer screen, not software screen recording.

Finally, and most importantly, you must show your face. Add a face to the thumbnail, use expressive facial expressions and gestures, and show your face at the beginning, middle, and end of the video. Even if it’s unrelated to the video content, you must show your face. This is an unwritten rule of the YouTube algorithm; videos without faces won’t be recommended.

In summary:

One is increasing quantity.

The other is increasing recommendations.

Third-party traffic

YouTube’s own content:

One is live streaming, one is short videos, and one is long videos.

Once internal traffic is stable, we need to start planning for external traffic. Although it’s not much, there’s a certain probability of success.

For example, WordPress blogs, Reddit forums, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, or Facebook.

Many people’s YouTube channels become popular because of YouTube’s own traffic recommendations.

Others gain popularity because someone with a large following on another platform recommends them, such as a celebrity or influencer on X mentioning the YouTube video. The mentioned YouTube video might then go viral, for example, if someone on X shares the YouTube link.

Another example is a WordPress blog with a high ranking. Embedding videos in articles can bring traffic to the videos. Theoretically, WordPress blogs don’t bring a lot of traffic; they only add a little. Videos that get millions of views overnight are usually due to commercial social media, not search engines.

However, for me, social media isn’t a good choice. Instead of managing social media, I’d rather focus on my own WordPress blog. Even if it doesn’t bring much traffic, I have control over it, I can learn SEO, and it can complement my YouTube videos.

Therefore, my priority for third-party platforms is my WordPress blog, like this one. Traffic is nice, but it’s not essential.

Conveniently, my homelab is primarily configured for running a WordPress blog.

The blog can systematically increase traffic to YouTube videos by adding articles, especially when the videos need corresponding blog documentation.

Vlog clips

At any time, just shoot a video, whether it’s a short video or a long one.

For long videos, piece together footage from a day or recent events; for short videos, just post them directly.

Don’t worry about the cleanliness or tidiness of the environment, don’t worry about your appearance or clothing, and don’t worry about the content of the video.

As long as you want to record something, just record it casually and share it casually. Even leave it to YouTube and the users; whether they watch it or not is irrelevant. Just record and publish, and someone will always notice things you didn’t. The algorithm will also inexplicably recommend certain videos. Your job is to record; the simpler, the better. Just make it a habit.

Even without traffic or income, it’s still your memory, and you can do it with just a mobile phone. You don’t need to buy a camera or a computer; even a ten-year-old phone will work.

Vlogging is the most natural type of video content; you don’t need to plan for a specific niche.

So, if you want to meticulously organize and produce content, create a dedicated channel, and also maintain a separate vlog channel.
The essence is to continuously add simple but useful channels, using the income from multiple channels to increase overall revenue, and using different niches to break through and test different strategies.

Besides vlogging, there’s also a separate category for food: what you eat, cooking, takeout, deliveries, travel – record and share everything related to food. No need for tutorials or editing; just casual shooting. This niche is even more appealing; it’s essentially a type of vlog, but it can be categorized as a separate major field.

There’s also talking head videos, discussing trending events and your opinions. This is also a major area of vlogging, focusing more on the face.

In short, a food channel, a talking head channel, and a daily vlog channel – simple daily life – as multiple channels to generate income.

Tips

Summary

Prioritize channels that generate higher profits, such as vlogs, food, talking-head videos, and daily life content. Secondly, focus on professionally edited content, such as homelab and WordPress tutorials, aiming for 3 to 5 channels in total.

Next, increase the number of videos on each channel. For example, for food channels, create videos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; for talking-head videos, aim for 1 to 5 videos; for daily vlogs, shoot as many as possible; and for homelab content, create videos systematically.

Then, focus on external traffic sources, such as WordPress blogs. While they may not bring in a large amount of traffic, they can serve as a supplement. Using commercial social media platforms is even better, as the goal is to increase the external traffic pool.

Theoretically, 3 channels, 3 times the number of videos, and 3 different media perspectives can at least triple your YouTube earnings. If all of them perform well, it could be 5 times, 9 times, or even 10 times the earnings.
