YouTube short videos
TikTok is the king of short videos, but why you should start making short videos on YouTube now:
First, adults shouldn’t choose between two or more options.
Do everything within your capabilities; that’s the optimal choice.
So, do TikTok, and also make short videos on YouTube. TikTok leans more towards live-streaming e-commerce, while YouTube is based on advertising revenue.
As long as your videos get a certain number of views and ad impressions, you’ll earn money. The earnings are usually small, but there’s a chance of a surge, and that’s enough.

short videos
I used to look down on short videos, thinking they were inferior to long videos and just low-quality entertainment.
But now, looking at them from a different perspective, short videos are far superior to long videos in some ways.
Mainly for the following reasons:
Firstly, the cost of production. Shooting a 15-second short video casually is a hundred times more time and effort than meticulously editing a long video (3 hours to several days of editing). Short videos can effectively record life, without redundancy, and highlight the key points. Long videos, when not professionally produced, can be long, tedious, and full of unnecessary chatter. Therefore, for busy people, time is the biggest cost.
Secondly, there’s the difference in immediate feedback. Leaving aside the difference in revenue, just looking at the data, long videos on YouTube are now basically… Long videos typically get zero or a few dozen views, and the data usually takes several days to appear. However, short videos, unless they’re terrible, generally get tens or hundreds of views. If they’re interesting or controversial, they’ll also get likes and comments, providing immediate feedback on likes, views, comments, and shares, and even bringing in subscribers (long videos have a much slower subscription rate).
Another aspect is revenue. Theoretically, there are more advertisers for short videos than long videos because the length of a short video is roughly the same as an ad. Sometimes, the short video itself is the ad. Although short video ads have a lower RPM, the higher view count is better than zero views for a long video. My current income mainly comes from short videos, although it’s pitifully small.

Long videos and live streams
Long videos require editing, while live streaming requires real-time interaction.
Long videos can supplement short videos, and successful short videos can immediately be used to start a live stream—these are all things TikTok has already mastered.
The difference lies in core and long-tail traffic.
Short videos are used to acquire subscriptions, comments, and likes, and then linked to long videos to drive playback.

young people
Short videos are primarily used by young people, while older people generally prefer longer videos.
However, with a little guidance, you’ll find that short videos also suit older audiences, especially documentary-style videos, such as those about the workplace, travel, and life skills.
Young people, on the other hand, prefer travel, food and entertainment, and jokes, especially videos featuring dancing and cats.

Tips
Short videos are a relatively recent concept. YouTube initially only had long videos; there were no live streams, no short videos, and no short articles like “X”.
Updating with a long video every day is difficult, but updating with a short video every day is easy.
Record the beauty of each day; no need to force it.
Once it becomes a habit, you can manage it professionally.
